Evet DeCota (ACC)

Life coaching found me not through a single defining moment, but through decades of paying attention to the human experience.

For nearly forty years, I have worked as a hairstylist, built and owned three salons, and taught cosmetology to the next generation of professionals. Long before I had a credential that said coach, I was sitting with people through their hardest seasons, their biggest decisions, and the quiet questions they hadn't yet said out loud to anyone else. The chair has always been a place of trust, and I have never taken that lightly.

In midlife, I went back to college surrounded by students thirty years younger than me, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, graduating magna cum laude and receiving a nomination for best thesis. I then completed a rigorous coach training program and earned my ACC certification through the International Coaching Federation. What surprised me most about that journey was not the academic challenge but the imposter syndrome that arrived precisely when I was succeeding, the inner critic that grew louder with every A, and the humbling realization that the patterns I had spent decades observing in others were very much alive in me.

I was born with a genetic bone disease that has shaped my relationship with vulnerability in ways I am still learning to articulate. For a long time, I guarded everything I could control because my body often felt like something I could not. What I have come to understand is that the vulnerability I spent years protecting myself from turned out to be the very thing that makes me effective in this work.

I believe that the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we deserve shape everything, and I believe those stories can be rewritten. That conviction sits at the center of every coaching conversation I have, whether I am working with a woman navigating a midlife identity shift, a salon owner ready to build something sustainable, or anyone standing at a fork in the road wondering which path belongs to them. I am fiercely committed to human resilience, the power of change, and the importance of genuinely caring about what truly matters

I am still on my own path, figuring it out honestly and writing about it along the way. If that kind of coaching sounds like what you need, I would love to talk.
